“I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.”                                        Pablo Picasso

Auction Evening

We hold regular auctions, run by experienced and knowledgeable dealers. During the auction there is a lot of humour and banter which helps to make the evening an enjoyable one. Even if you don’t buy something on the night you are likely to learn a few fascinating things as occasionally the workings of an item are explained.

Items start arriving at 5.30pm and are available for inspection until the auction starts at 6.30pm. The auction runs non-stop until all items are sold or until we have run out of time! We aim to finish the auction no later than 11.30pm. Prior to the start of the auction you can open an account or you can pay cash to the runner bringing you your item. All accounts must be settled before you leave.

There is a £3 entry charge for non-members.

The evening officially commences at 7.30pm with half an hour of in-house entertainment.

What to expect

LECTURES   •   Evenings with a star lecturer

Members start to arrive from around 7pm and catch up with friends, get a drink from the bar, peruse the DVD library and buy some raffle tickets. The Walker Suite which has the bar is a comfortable room to have a drink and chat.

During a workshop evening there are some 5 or 6 areas set out in the large room with a member at each who is there to teach small groups specific moves or routines. This can involve playing cards, coins, sponge balls, ropes, silks, rubber bands etc.

Workshop   One to one

There is no pressure for anyone to participate, you can sit back, relax and enjoy. You might be working on an effect and want some guidance or ways to improve a move. This could be your opportunity to acquire some useful feedback. The advice offered is likely to not only to improve your performance, but help those listening too. The main lecture will start at 8pm and will run for about an hour or so until we take a 15 minute comfort break. The raffle will be drawn before the lecture continues. Most lectures finish around 10.15pm.

We have had demonstrations of magical effects, engrossing mentalism, an overview of hypnotism, a discussion on NLP, puppetry, palmistry, dice stacking, children’s magic,  stage setting, sponge balls and rubber bands, to name but a few.  It is always a pleasant surprise to see what happens and to see the diversity of our members interests.

You can choose what you would like to learn and will have about 20 minutes in that group. At the end of that session, everybody moves to a different area to learn another effect. Choose carefully as there is not enough time for you to fit everything in!
